Grandpa George
One sunny day, Grandpa John decided to visit Grandpa George's house to have a picnic at the local park. The weather was nice after all, and not a cloud was in sight. He gathered sandwiches, chocolate, fruits, granola bars, and bottles of water in his basket, along with his favorite checkered blanket.
Walking down the street, Grandpa John enjoyed the birds singing and the nice cool breeze, but the golden rays of sunshine was the best part. Once up to the door, he rang the doorbell and waited for an answer.
Grandpa George opened the door, feeling startled. "WHAT?!"
Grandpa John smiled. "Good morning, Grandpa George! Are you interested in going on a picnic today?"
Grandpa George squinted, then repeated. "WHAT?! Did you say something about getting a big net?"
Grandpa John shook his head. "I said do you want to go on a picnic today?"
Grandpa George took a moment to respond. "Oh, a picnic! Yeah, that sounds good! Let me get my cap first!"
Soon enough, Grandpa George came out with his navy-gray cap. Together, both grandpas walked to the park, laid out the blanket, and enjoyed their meal.
It wasn't long before the mischievous purple monkeys took notice of the duo. They were known around town for their silly antics. One of them spotted Grandpa John's granola bar, eyes gleaming with excitement, and decided to swipe it when nobody was looking.
Grandpa John turned to his side. "My granola bar! It's gone!"
Grandpa George peered over. "WHAT?! Did you say something about a talking car?"
Grandpa John, now searching, replied. "No, my granola bar! It was here just now."
That same purple monkey chomped away at the granola bar and was delighted. Giggles and chatter filled the trees, which soon caught the attention of the two grandpas.
Grandpa John sighed. "Looks like those purple monkeys are up to their usual tricks again. Remember those troublemakers, Grandpa George?"
Grandpa George squinted, then declared, "A-ha! I see them now! I do, and they sure are sneaky, aren't they?"
Suddenly, one of them swiped the basket and laughed at the grandpas.
Grandpa John shook his fist. "Hey! Give us our food back! We need our nutrition, you know!"
Unbeknownst to him, another purple monkey quickly took Grandpa George's cap and put it on, then did a dance. Their antics only seemed to grow wilder, just like their animal instincts were.
Grandpa George, trying to adjust his cap, noticed something. "WHAT?! Where'd my cap go?!"
Grandpa John pointed. "They took it, Grandpa George! After them!"
A chase began, with the purple monkeys swinging tree to tree in glee. Grandpa John and Grandpa George struggled to keep up, but they eventually made it to a clearing with them gathered around. The monkeys were inspecting the items they stole, like they found buried treasure.
Grandpa John stepped forward, his voice stern. "Now, now, you shouldn't be stealing. If you wanted some, we could've easily shared."
Grandpa George agreed. "We've got plenty of fruits! Bananas included! Also, I want my cap back!"
Looking at each other, then hanging their heads low in guilt, the purple monkeys surrendered. One of them returned Grandpa John's basket to him while the other gave Grandpa George his cap.
Grandpa John gave one of the purple monkeys a banana. "Here, we have plenty of these. Next time, we share. Does that sound good?"
The monkey nodded and shared chunks of the banana with the others. Grandpa John gave them a few more, then they all cheered and disappeared into the forest. Late afternoon was approaching with the sun starting to set. Grandpa John and Grandpa George made their way out while chuckling about the absurd situation.
Grandpa John, adjusting his glasses, pondered. "Maybe next time, we can invite the purple monkeys! What do you think about that, Grandpa George?"
Grandpa George hollered. "WHAT?! Did you say something about inviting a chipmunk with a rat? Or was it about a bear and a dove with a mood? Or... a squirrel with dentures?!"
Grandpa John facepalmed. "Never mind. Let's go home."
So the two old-timers made their walk back to their houses. They reflected on the events today with their picnic and the purple monkeys. Grandpa George wasn't sure how purple monkeys could eat granola bars, nor was Grandpa John certain of what they would do next.
